An Alternate Explanation for Trapped Doors
So one thing I should talk about is the prevalence of Goblin Gates. People tend to underestimate goblins, since goblins are generally full of bad ideas. One particularly bad idea is a spell, unique to goblin kind and passed down from generation to generation, is a spell that summons just a little bit of chaos into a door. Interestingly, Goblin Gating might be more lethal if it was just a trapped door, but no, part of the bad idea is that door affected by a goblin gate spell needs to be OBVIOUSLY trapped. Goblins actually compete to see what the most lethal, deadly door trap can be, and they also have categories for, of course, the ugliest, outrageous, funhouse looking doors. So the bonus is, if you encounter a Goblin Gate, you know it’s trapped. However, every incarnation of the trap is totally unique. You might find a clown looking door, that summons a bee filled lemon meringue pie and hits you in the face with it, that sort of thing. In theory, the trap is supposed to spring on an enemy intruder, but many goblins die to their own doors, leaving these deadly things lying about, with no real way to turn it off. Rogues, of course, can pick them and disarm them like any ordinary trap, but they give rogues fits, since the rogue has no idea if the price for failure is acid in the groin this time around or if he’s getting summoned to the elemental plane of dairy whip.

[10/9/2013 12:32:24 AM] Xavier Rodriguez: That is the general idea, yes. Unless, of course, there is something you want behind that door…
[10/9/2013 12:34:27 AM] Dylan Gould: Is there?
[10/9/2013 12:35:25 AM] Xavier Rodriguez: Well, the obvious part would be the goblin
[10/9/2013 12:35:32 AM] Dylan Gould: I mean, there sort of has to be, but you’re making it sound like they do this not to protect valuables, but for the joy of making a vicious door.
[10/9/2013 12:35:46 AM] Xavier Rodriguez: as I said. bad ideas
[10/9/2013 12:35:53 AM] Dylan Gould: :D
[10/9/2013 12:39:59 AM | Xavier Rodriguez: I like to run goblins as more the fey, labyrinth style goblins. Orcs? They’ll just come to your house and burn it down. Goblins? Way cooler if they launched a flaming goat through the window. Trampled by angry, oil covered goat? Acceptable losses .
[10/9/2013 12:44:51 AM] Xavier Rodriguez: Oh! And goblin doors with forgotten passwords = goblin fondness for constructing secret passages and secret doors to hide them. Can’t go through it? Tunnel round it
